This is HERE

A couple of months ago during lockdown I spotted a magazine down at the supermarket and it caught my eye.

Soon it will be no secret that I love architecture a lot - some more posts to come with some of my favourite architectural designs I am sure in time. But all that aside the magazine HERE caught my eye with the striking use of colour, minimal naming and attention to detail that was immediately obvious when looking at it on the shelf.

Opening this magazine up I was completely stunned as a designer. My cap gets tipped to the team at Studio Akin for art direction on this mag. Designers Tana Mitchell and Emma Kaniuk did a fantastic job with the magazine.

Every page, even the advertising has been laid out on a grid - the paper stock is uncoated but still the ink is bright - pages are laid out with a perfect fusion of content and design.

The layout is a fusion of contrasting design choices that sing so well together. Then there’s a lot of space being used well and making the magazine a pleasure to read.

Which brings me to the founder and creator of the magazine who was a victim of the commercial Covid-19 crisis - losing his job and left looking at what life would bring next - not much as it turned out. Simon Farrell-Green dives into the origins of the magazine at the start of this issue. A very interesting start to create something special.

Please pick up a copy if you see it or you can buy on the HERE store. Issue No. 2 is out now also, so off to get my copy, or it’s subscription time.
