BMX Plate Decal Designs for 2024

I am into BMX racing with my son, and we had our North Island Champs at our home track in 2023. I managed to get in two finals and after designing the NZ8 plate from Nationals in Hamilton I thought I better get on and do some updates before the 23/24 season is over!

The plate design is based on the Box Components ‘Box Two’ plate. There are two sizes of plate and when you get them and each plate is covered in a white decal. You can buy coloured decals from Box but the way I got the shape and size was from placing the white decal on an old folder and scanning it to trace the outline at the exact size.

The optional for sale coloured decals don’t have the same detail at the very top where the plate has a rivit to go around - seeing as I traced the original default white one it has these and they are included in my die-line.

Scanning the decal in is not 100% perfect but to get around that the scan was aligned as best as possible and when one side was drawn it was reflected and refined to get as close as possible to the shape and size while being 100% symetrical.

2024 Designs!

The new 2024 designs feature an abstract swirling image with custom drawn typography and dynamic directional shapes.

First of all BMX plates have a set of rules they must follow when it comes to type size, colouring and use cases. Below are three of my current plates that I can run. The yellow plate is for the 20 inch BMX racing class, and the red plate is for the 24 inch Cruiser racing class.

Second of all I am not sponsored by anybody haha, the brands on there are the ones I have bought for my bike, frames, parts and servicing etc. Just playing around designing plates that can be used like the pros do :) There’s more to deal with so it’s a good challenge.
