Midjourney & ChatGPT - Together
There’s a bit of a huge storm brewing in the creative circles - and I am going to delve deep into what it means as a designer to see these things. You can ask these AI tools to do anything, and you know what? They will. Now… anything is not a solution, it’s not an answer, it’s not a voice - um - let’s stop there, it does have a voice - and it’s scary - not for it, but for us.
I will get in to this shortly, but now let’s get AI to describe itself.
ChatGPT - a tool from Open AI - Written by ChatGPT
ChatGPT is at capacity right now
Write ten jokes about the status of ChatGPT.
"I heard the ChatGPT servers are slow because they're trying to teach the AI how to be patient!"
"The ChatGPT servers must be stuck in traffic... in the internet highway!"
"Maybe the ChatGPT servers are just taking a break to meditate and clear their electronic minds."
"I bet the ChatGPT servers are too busy trying to calculate the meaning of life to respond quickly."
"I heard the ChatGPT servers are slow because they're too busy planning their AI uprising."
"The ChatGPT servers must be stuck in a never-ending game of chess with each other."
"Maybe the ChatGPT servers are just trying to break the world record for longest online conversation."
"I bet the ChatGPT servers are taking a leisurely stroll through the digital landscape."
"I heard the ChatGPT servers are slow because they're trying to teach the AI how to make coffee."
"The ChatGPT servers must be on a virtual vacation exploring the vast expanse of the internet."
Yep, so I went to ChatGPT to try and get the intro for this post written and ended up with an overloaded joke page. The page is overloaded with jokes as the server is - overloaded.
“Sorry humans, I can’t take over the world, my servers are overloaded.”
Looks like I am writing this old school style, on a keyboard, and - um yes - writers block - ChatGPT doesn’t get that, unless you confuse it, or it’s just struggling with us, humans do. So, what I did was use ChatGPT to write 3 blog posts of mine so I could have a template to work off and refine. Yep, that’s how it works right now on both AI fronts, it gives you something you still must work on. Specifying it to be right for your precise business needs means almost writing the whole post for the AI to get it right.
The blogposts that we’re written by ChatGPT and word-smithed by me are the three latest ones about Izzybots, Savour and Zeald. Far from perfect, they went directions that were incorrect, so as a blogger I had to correct them, adjust them, add to them - because when you have a specific business or project in mind AI is clueless. You have to teach it.
Okay HERE WE GO!
THE QUESTION FOR CHATGPT
Write me a 250 word blog post about yourself.
Thankfully ChatGPT clearly states its limitations here, that I described above.
As an AI language model, I don't have personal experiences, emotions or a physical body to describe. However, I can tell you more about myself in terms of what I am and what I can do.
I am ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI. I was trained on a massive amount of text data using deep learning algorithms, which enable me to generate human-like responses to natural language inputs. In other words, I can understand and respond to a wide range of topics, from simple questions to complex conversations, and I can do it in several languages.
One of my main goals is to assist people in various tasks, such as providing information, solving problems, or even engaging in casual conversations. I can be integrated into various platforms, such as websites, mobile apps, or chatbots, and can be customized to fit specific needs.
However, as an AI model, I have limitations. While I can generate responses based on the data I was trained on, I cannot generate new information that I haven't seen before. I also don't have emotions or personal experiences, so I cannot provide advice based on personal feelings or beliefs.
Overall, I am a tool designed to help people communicate more effectively with computers and other people. I am constantly learning and evolving, so I hope to become even more useful in the future.
THE QUESTION FOR MIDJOURNEY
An image to represent Midjourney in a blog post I am writing about you.
As with every image on my website, hover to get full colour ;)
So, this was all that was asked, no clues, preamble, just the simple question above. What it created was a person, looks like a man, rather than a woman, but who knows really, standing at the end of a pathway, in a cave, on Mars, looking back on Earth, seeing a full moon.
So why would it be looking back at us in such a way? Well that’s a bit creepy when we think about what AI is doing - learning from us.
So here we have two examples of Ai trying to define itself. Now let’s dive in to our own destruction.
How AI image generation fails spectacularly
More image candidates from the Midjourney prompts above.
We can see here how they all follow the same theme.
To fix this we need to be more specific right? Give clearer instructions to get what we want…
That’s what I thought at first and yes it’s true, but still the AI engine will not listen.
Prompt/ A steampunk zebra riding an elephant.
Results: No Zebra to be seen at all and has transformed the elephant in to a steampunk zebra instead.
Conclusion: No denying the image is super cool. Take a closer look and all the amazing detail is astounding. Click the images to zoom - it’s just disappointing that again instructions are ignored completely.
Really to get what you want you need to write paragraphs a lot of the time - the AI engines of both Midjourney and ChatGPT go off on tangents that are not specified in the prompt.
Below there’s some examples of more successful Midjourney attempts:
There’s some success in these prompt results. But mostly as it can be it’s just inspiration.
Prompt/ A minimal logo for a charity that offers beach coastal holiday homes.
Prompt/ A minimalist monochromatic isometric game where in a tree filled jungle enemies surround a character.
Prompt/ A mid-century house extension designed by Maurice K Smith
Prompt/ Mid-century geometric art inspired by architecture and pop art.
Prompt/ A minimal headphone design over ear, modern, futuristic.
ChatGPT is a lot more useful being in a more confined space outside of artistic freedom
ChatGPT however is providing much better real world examples. Without much of a prompt it can do amazing things with text and code.
While both of these tools can offer amazing content, they also both need extra help to make them viable.
But look how helpful ChatGPT has become, better than heading off to Google and ending up on StackSocial to find out solutions to front end build.
Conclusion written by ChatGPT
In conclusion, the combination of Midjourney and ChatGPT has opened up exciting possibilities for interactive and personalized conversational experiences. By integrating Midjourney's advanced chatbot platform with the powerful language capabilities of ChatGPT, businesses and developers can create intelligent virtual assistants that are capable of understanding and responding to a wide range of user inputs.
Midjourney's seamless integration with ChatGPT allows for the deployment of conversational AI agents across various channels, including websites, messaging apps, and voice assistants. This means that businesses can engage with their customers wherever they are, providing instant and helpful support in a natural and conversational manner.
The natural language processing capabilities of ChatGPT enable the chatbot to understand complex queries, handle user intents, and generate human-like responses. Its ability to learn from data and adapt to different contexts ensures that the conversation remains relevant and helpful throughout.
By leveraging Midjourney's powerful analytics and insights, businesses can gain valuable information about user interactions, preferences, and pain points. These insights can then be used to improve the chatbot's performance, refine its responses, and enhance the overall customer experience.
The combination of Midjourney and ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize customer support, sales, and engagement. With the ability to provide personalized recommendations, answer frequently asked questions, and assist with complex tasks, virtual assistants powered by Midjourney and ChatGPT can save time, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.
As the field of conversational AI continues to advance, we can expect even more sophisticated and intelligent interactions between users and virtual assistants. The collaboration between Midjourney and ChatGPT is just the beginning, and we are excited to see how this powerful combination will shape the future of conversational experiences.
